Rad Reading – March

I read a book called Two Can Keep A Secret by Karen M. McManus this month. This book is a 352-page YA murder mystery novel. It takes place in Echo Ridge a typical small town but that town has secrets no one knows. Two twins, Ellery and Ezra, are just beginning to learn about their past. Soon they’ll be in for a trip down memory lane faster than anyone would want. Ellery and Ezra have never been to Echo Ridge, the only reason their here is because their mom has been put in rehab and their aunt was murdered five years ago. So the only person who can have them come live with her is their grandmother whom they barely know. Before even school is in session for Ellery and Ezra, the same person who killed Sarah, Ellery’s mom’s sister five years ago is back and ready to strike again. This killer promises to make it as deadly as five years ago’s death. Then to prove he’s not fooling he takes another girl and another girl goes missing. Ellery and Ezra both know all about secrets. they know their mother has some, and even their grandmother does too. So the longer they’re in Echo Ridge, the more apparent it is that everyone in their small town is hiding something, anything. All the twins know is that everyone in their new life has something to hide. The thing about secrets though is that some can be dangerous, and most people aren’t good at keeping them. In Echo Ridge, it’s the safest thing to keep all your secrets to yourself.

I really enjoyed this book because it wasn’t like any normal murder mystery that I’ve ever read, it had the experience of going from the different characters’ points of view because it switched each chapter. I also really enjoyed it because it was a murder mystery and it’s kind of like the book series A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder because they reopen and try to solve a murder case from five years ago. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes that book series and also murder and crime and mystery and chemistry between characters.

My favorite character is Malcolm because he’s caring and nice, and he tries so hard to be his own person. One quote to prove that he tries hard to be his own person is “I became Declan Kelly’s brother before I got a chance to be anything else, and sometimes it feels like that’s all I’ll ever be.” (pg.31). This proves that he tries hard to be his own person because it shows how he knows that he lives in the shadow of his brother Declan so everyone thinks that he’ll turn out just as bad as his brother. This quote shows that even with him trying so hard to be his own person he knows he’ll probably never grow out of his brother’s shadow. But he tries so hard to be his own person, but it’s hard to change your reputation when your brother was the prime suspect in the death of Sarah five years ago.

One of my favorite quotes is “I’m sick to death of watching lies pile up on top of one another like the world’s worst Jenga game.” (pg.262). This is one of my favorite quotes because it reminds everyone of how each little lie no matter how big keeps building up until there’s a pile of all the lies you’ve ever told and it just keeps building up which is why we should all strive to try our hardest not to lie anytime. My second favorite quote is “…some secrets shouldn’t be told.” (pg.323). This is my other favorite quote because it goes to show that the secrets that anyone tells another and asks not to be shared aren’t meant to be shared. This reminds everyone that if someone is telling you not to tell their secret to someone else it’s probably for a good reason.

Rad Reading – February

This month I read 14 Ways To Die by Vincent Ralph. This book is a 392-page thriller that takes place in the U.K. This book is about a girl whose mother was killed by a serial killer also known now as the Magpie Man, her mother was the first victim of 13 going on 14 victims. She is determined to unmask the lethal killer. She signs up and auditions for a live-streamed reality tv show. This show would be filming her entire life and the entire public would know everything she does, they film till midnight and then start filming again at 7 in the morning. Jess, the girl, tries to get more attention from the people around her directed toward the case that remains unsolved, the case that hasn’t been solved which allows the Magpie Man to be able to keep murdering people. Since no one has a clue as to who he actually is. She uses her fame as an icon on the reality tv show in order to help her catch him, that is unless he kills her first. The bad thing about being able to get attention because your now a star, is that the public is able to see your every move and Jess has a hard time knowing who to trust.

I really enjoyed this book because even though it’s about a girl trying to catch a serial killer, it shows how her life is affected by the reality tv show filming her every move. Because when everyone knows your every move you never know who to trust. I also enjoyed this book because it included all the topics I like reading about such as love, murder, crime, and mystery. This book also included one really good plot twist that had me shocked. I’d recommend this book to anyone who loves a good ol’ murder mystery book.

My favorite character is the main character Jess, she’s my favorite because she shows that everyone is afraid of something, and she’s also determined. One quote to prove that she’s determined is “…I’m not the kinda person to stream their life on youtube…So if you ask why I want to be one of five people to star in a new online show about them, and only them, it’s pretty simple. I want to catch the Magpie Man, and this is how I’m going to do it.” (pg. 2). This proves she’s determined because she’s going out of her comfort zone only because she is determined to find and put in jail the very killer that killed her mother 10 years ago, which means she is 17 now since she was seven years old when she died.

My favorite quote is “These aren’t memories. They are stains. I couldn’t forget them if I wanted to” this is my favorite quote because it shows us that some memories are so vivid or unforgettable that you will never forget them.

Invisibility is Cool

If I was invisible there are many things I would do with that power. One thing I would do is go around and scare people. Scaring people is a thing that I enjoy doing, that may sound mean and yes it basically is but for me it’s fun. If I was invisible it would be a lot easier to scare someone because usually when I go to scare someone they end up either hearing or seeing me before I get to scaring them. So if I was invisible I would be able to just float around and no one would know I was there because they wouldn’t see me, this would help me be able to scare people because if I was floating then I would basically be weightless like air meaning I wouldn’t jump into anything so I wouldn’t be heard before I’m able to scare someone. And also if I was going to scare someone and I was invisible they wouldn’t be able to see me before I got to scare them, and I’d be able to scare them successfully. Don’t worry because if I end up successfully scaring someone I always make sure to apologize for the scare afterward. Second thing I would do if I was invisible would be to suggest playing hide-and-seek so that I could win, I would suggest playing hide-and-seek with a reward for whoever wins such as $1,000,000 dollars, the perk of being invisible for twenty-four hours is that with this power comes the advantage of being able to turn it on and off. So no one would know that I would be able to win hide-and-seek because I would only go invisible after I’m in my hiding spot. This means I would gain $1,000,000 dollars.
